Home / Teachers / Benjamin Beal
Originally from Westwood, MA, Ben was first exposed to classical music at a young age through his sisters, his father, and his grandmother (all pianists). Pursuing other interests in history and athletics made him a late starter in music, not really becoming serious about a career in music until the end of high school.
Working through voice lessons under Catherine Jensen-Hole in the UMass Jazz Department, he was able to develop a stronger and more personal sound. He has studied further with Kate Reid, Karrin Allyson and Janis Siegel (of Manhattan Transfer), to name a few. His extensive experience singing in vocal groups has garnered him a Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award. He was the recipient of the 2016 Fletcher Henderson Award for Outstanding Student Achievement.
